No Respect From The Media? Respect Yourselves... Bring Back The Salute

DENVER - OCTOBER 30: Running back Mike Anderson #38 of the Denver Broncos gives a 'Mile High Salute' after scoring a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles in the first quarter on October 30, 2005 at Invesco Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado. Fact: The Broncos have gone undefeated through five on five separate seasons in their fifty year history.  The past four times, they made it to the Superbowl.

Now I am not trying to jinx the whole "Josh McDaniels" thing, but a franchise that can boast that has history.

I don't want to seem arrogant or cocky, but this Broncos squad has some "swagger" (sorry Raiders fans, you can reclaim the term when Al Davis dies).  Despite the play-making on the field, they are easily the least respected 5-0 team in the NFL.

Now any self-respecting fan has to take it kind of personally when you've been through everything from the last off-season, then magically come out 5-0 (I use the word magic because Broncos football is like a real-life Disney movie right now) and still have a lot of pundits talking down on your squad.

In fact, the 2-2 Chargers are being viewed as 3-point favorites over Team Mile-High Miracle on monday night.  Like I said to start, I don't want to jinx anything, but even the late, great Rodney Dangerfield is rollin' in his coffin looking at what they're saying about Denver.

So I have a suggestion or perhaps a plea to the team.

Back in Medieval Europe, when knights passed by each other or royalty while in armor, they would lift the visor on their "helms" to signal subservience and pacifism.  That little gesture managed to survive through the centuries all the way up into the modern military.

And then a little later, it was adopted by "T.D." Davis, "Flexmaster" Sharpe, and the rest of the 32-crew.  I say "32-crew" because 32 + 33-crew sounds awkard and would be the 65-crew, which no one would understand.

Somewhere along the line it was either banned or dropped... I really don't remember, but I do recall seeing M.J.D. do it last year at Invesco to taunt the guys, and it didn't draw a penalty.

If any Broncos team could revive the Mile High Salute in a meaningful way, it would be this squad.  The gesture means, to most people, "I respect you."  And this team still isn't getting a lot of it from the mainstream media.

My request to the fans is that we bring it back.  Salute your boys to show them the respect they deserve and revive an awesome piece of Broncos history.  Lets get the players on board by spreading it ourselves.

The Mile High Salute has some serious meaning, and if any team is deserving of a little more respect, it's our Denver Broncos.

The Mile High Salute is a lot of things: respect, swagger, and success amongst them.

But most of all, it represents pride, and everyone seems to have a lot of that again.
