Nia Jax vs. Emma: Who Would Make Better WWE Raw Women's Champion?
At No Mercy, two very different warriors will be a win away from the WWE Raw Women's Championship—Nia Jax and Emma.
Jax is the women's division's resident powerhouse, a wrecking ball in spandex. Emma is an underhanded technician with delusions of grandeur who claims to have been the catalyst for the current revolution in women's wrestling.
On Monday's Raw, Emma and Jax—quite the unlikely team—earned a win over Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss. The victory placed both winners into what is now a Fatal 4-Way match for the Raw women's title at No Mercy.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
For both Jax and Emma, a win at the Sept. 24 pay-per-view would begin the first WWE title reign of their careers.
Who would most entertain in that spot? Who would make a better centerpiece for the division's narratives? Who would most thrive as the titleholder?
Read on for a look at those questions.
The Case for Emma
Emma is a better worker and would more consistently produce good matches as champion.
A part of that is she's easier to adapt to as an opponent, as opposed to Jax who towers over most women.
And Emma has shown she can deliver. She has more memorable bouts on her resume than Jax does. That includes her standout TakeOver: London clash with Asuka and her showdown with Paige at NXT Arrival.
The Australian is more experienced, too.
Emma has been wrestling since she was a teenager. She was competing for Canadian independent territories and Shimmer Women Athletes years before signing with WWE.
Jax, on the other hand, is still learning her craft. It's only been since 2014 that she has been a part of the business. Emma had already worked her way to the main roster by that point.
After not being in the women's title picture at all, Emma claiming the throne would be an intriguing surprise. And you know she would enter her reign with a massive chip on her shoulder after being passed by for long.
The Case for Jax
Jax is an imposing force. She is a believable predator and has a monster's presence. Combine that with her size and it would be easy to buy into her as a champion.
Her record of late is more championship-worthy than Emma's, too. Per CageMatch.net, Jax has a .500 winning percentage on television and PPV this year compared to Emma's .333 mark.
Jax has blasted Emma in their previous meetings. She's left Banks hobbled. Her foes have more escaped her than defeated her.
She's been better built up to be a titleholder on the mountaintop.
She has more recent history with Bayley, Banks and Bliss, as well. It's been just over a week since Jax turned on Bliss and ended their partnership via a Samoan Drop.
Her rivalries with Banks and Bayley would be easy to build on. WWE Creative simply has more ready-to-go options for storylines with Jax as champ.
And while she's behind Emma in terms of in-ring production, she's made big progress of late. She has looked more proficient in the ring and more comfortable as a rampaging beast between the ropes.
The guys at Daily DDT praised her work in her latest match on Raw:
We've seen more stuff like that from her lately. Making her champion now would require some faith from WWE that she could keep improving and that the title would fuel her to reach her ceiling.
That looks to be a safe bet at the moment.
The Verdict
Emma's character in flux. It's clear who Jax is.
Emma's self-important act has morphed into one obsessed with social media. The focus on hashtags isn't something you would expect from a titleholder.
Miami Herald columnist Scott Fishman poked fun at the narrative of her recent bout with Mickie James:
Should Emma win the women's title, WWE would have more work in reshaping who she is and trying to convince the crowd she's worthy of that gold after so many losses. That's not true for Jax, whose recent history is more filled with dominance.
WWE has shown with Braun Strowman, Mark Henry and Brock Lesnar that it excels with the story of a monster ruling the roost. There's less of a guarantee the creative team gets a good handle on Emma's presentation.
Emma remains the better overall wrestler, but Jax makes more sense as champion for the moment. That will change in a hurry if WWE continues to spotlight Emma and allows her to compile more victories.
The Aussie can close the gap in a hurry.
