Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil

Christopher SimpsonJul 21, 2017

Alexis Sanchez is reportedly close to agreeing terms with Paris Saint-Germain, but Arsenal are "increasingly hopeful" they can tie down Mesut Ozil.

According to L'Equipe (h/t Metro), Sanchez's camp "have held advanced talks with PSG's sporting director Antero Henrique," regarding a potential move.

While there is reportedly a discrepancy in the length of contract wanted by both parties—Sanchez is said to be pursuing a three-year deal whereas PSG want a longer-term agreement in place—they're nearing a consensus with the Chilean set to earn £275,000 per week.

The Ligue 1 side are yet to agree a transfer fee with the Gunners, though, which may prove tricky given Arsenal's desire to keep him.

Per the Telegraph's Jason Burt, Les Parisiens are confident they can prise him away from north London:

Bleacher Report's James McNicholas believes Arsenal should consider letting him leave for the French outfit if he doesn't sign a new deal:

While letting go of a player who scored 30 goals and assisted 19 in all competitions last season is far from ideal, it's even worse if that player strengthens a direct rival.

If Sanchez makes it clear he will not be putting pen to paper again at the Emirates Stadium and PSG are offering a fair price it might be the best solution.

It appears the Gunners are unlikely to lose both of their top stars, though, as "there have been more positive talks and signs of a breakthrough in negotiations," despite Arsenal's offer of £280,000 per week falling short of his reported demands of £350,000, according to the Mirror's John Cross.

The German's creativity and distribution is vital to Arsenal's play in the final third, so keeping him is of similar importance to Sanchez.

Squawka Football demonstrated the accuracy of his delivery:

Summer signing Alexandre Lacazette will particularly benefit from Ozil staying. Because of his pace and ruthless finishing, he has the tools to take full advantage of the playmaker's vision and penetrative passing.

The Gunners might also hope that if they can get Ozil to sign a new deal, it may have a positive impact on their ability to get Sanchez to do the same.
