Danny Rose Reportedly Monitored by Manchester United Amid Luke Shaw Rumours
Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose in case Luke Shaw fails to take his chance at Old Trafford this season.
According to Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News, there is faith in Shaw at United, and he is expected to play a much more significant role in the coming term than he did in the previous one.
Even so, it's added the Red Devils "are keeping tabs on Rose's situation with a view to possibly bidding for him next summer if Shaw fails to convince [Jose] Mourinho in his fourth season at Old Trafford."

Luckhurst added that United are also keeping an eye on Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney after his impressive breakthrough in Scotland.
Shaw's regular omission from the Red Devils side last season fuelled doubt over whether or not he had a future at United under Mourinho. He started just nine Premier League games in the campaign and failed to showcase much in terms of consistency or quality.
As noted by Bleacher Report's Rob Blanchette late last term, after missing much of the 2015-16 campaign with injury, the left-back looked a long way short of full fitness:
It appears Mourinho is ready to give Shaw a chance to show what he can do this season, though. And if the England international takes his opportunity he'd be a big asset.
After all, United's other options in the position—Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian—lack the thrust Shaw can bring to the left flank. During the early years of his career at Southampton, the full-back was a persistent attacking threat and quality crosser of the ball. United fans will want to see more of that.
The Red Devils have those attributes on the right flank with Antonio Valencia, and it'd be desirable to have a similar edge on the left. If it doesn't materialise this term, it'd be no surprise to see United explore some other options.

Rose would be a tremendous capture if United could pull it off. As noted by Dan Kilpatrick of ESPN FC, last season he and Kyle Walker were menaces at wing-back for Tottenham:
With Walker now a Manchester City player, Spurs would surely resist any approaches for Rose in this window or the next. After all, he's a player the club have invested plenty of time and effort in, and last term he enjoyed the finest season of his career before injury curtailed his campaign.
According to Luckhurst, "Rose could be tempted by a move to United partly due to his northern roots." However, some seismic shifts would be required in the football landscape in north London before Spurs would entertain selling a key member of their starting XI.
