Andre Iguodala Rumors: Wing Reportedly to Meet with Spurs, Kings

Scott PolacekJun 30, 2017

Andre Iguodala will reportedly meet with arguably the Golden State Warriors' primary competitor in the Western Conference.

On Friday, Chris Haynes of ESPN reported Iguodala will meet with the San Antonio Spurs—whom the Warriors beat in the 2017 Western Conference Finals—in Los Angeles as soon as the free-agency period begins Saturday at 12:01 a.m. ET.

Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com noted Iguodala will also meet with Sacramento Kings.

Iguodala has been a mainstay for the Warriors during the last four seasons as they ascended to the top of the NBA world, but Haynes previously reported he didn't plan on meeting with Golden State in the initial free-agency period.

While Iguodala certainly understands what the Warriors can offer given his recent experience, Haynes pointed out they "are expected to have big money locked up" in their primary four superstars of Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.

Zach Lowe of ESPN.com also said Iguodala will not meet with the Warriors for now but added the two sides are still "optimistic."

The wingman won the 2015 NBA Finals MVP and guarded LeBron James for extended stretches in each of the last three Finals. He was a finalist for the 2016-17 Sixth Man of the Year, and opponents shot 1.4 percent worse overall and 2.6 percent worse from three-point range than their normal averages when he guarded them, per NBA.com.

Iguodala is a two-time member of an All-Defensive team and could serve as a playoff-tested veteran leader and two-way contributor for a number of squads.

The Spurs would give him a chance to continue winning considering they just reached the Western Conference Finals and have 2016-17 MVP finalist Kawhi Leonard leading the way as one of the best players in the league.
