Barcelona Transfer News: €100M Marco Verratti Bid Expected Amid Latest Rumours

Barcelona are reportedly planning to make a €100 million (£88 million) bid for Paris Saint-Germain's Marco Verratti after the midfielder told the French club he plans to leave this summer.

According to Mediaset Premium (via Football Italia), the Catalan giants will launch their bid on Monday as they look to get in ahead of long-term Verratti suitors Juventus. Barca are said to be prepared to offer more than the Italian's previously reported €80 million (£70.5 million) price tag.

Per L'Equipe (via Football Italia), Verratti told PSG director of sport Antero Henrique he wants to leave the Parc des Princes before next season, with his agent, Donato Di Campli, having intimated the 24-year-old is no longer satisfied just competing for Ligue 1.

In 2016-17, PSG were knocked out the UEFA Champions League at the last-16 stage, having fallen in the quarter-finals the previous four seasons, and also lost out on the French title to AS Monaco, ending a run of four championships on the bounce.

It seems Verratti is not satisfied with PSG's lack of competitiveness outside of France, and Barca are looking to take advantage.

Given the Italy international is one of the club's most important players and has a contract until 2021, Barcelona could find it hard to prise Verratti away.

If the reports are true, though, and Barcelona are prepared to pay big money for the playmaker if he does want to move away from Paris, the Blaugrana could get their man.

Verratti has been consistently excellent for PSG since joining them from Pescara in 2012.

He was one of the best performers in the French top flight last season, per WhoScored.com:

Barca need to bolster their central-midfield ranks, as Andres Iniesta is 33 and was limited to only 13 league starts last term, while Andre Gomes and Arda Turan have proved underwhelming signings.

Verratti has all the attributes to excel at the Camp Nou, boasting defensive acumen, excellent control and a superb range of passing.

It will be a tough task to fight off Juve and persuade PSG into selling him, but if Barca are prepared to splash the cash, they could well snap Verratti up this summer.
