Stephen Curry Credits Improved Health for 2017 NBA Finals Performance
After falling short of expectations in last season's NBA Finals, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry pointed toward his health as a reason for his resurgence in 2017.
According to ESPN.com's Chris Haynes, Curry believes he is in a much better place physically now than he was at this time last year:
"I'm not dealing with an MCL situation. It never was an excuse last year. I should have played much better. But yeah, there's a lot of factors that go into that, obviously. We've played only [15] games so far. We managed our minutes throughout the year a lot better, and I've been smarter about just taking care of my body. So this is the moment we've obviously been looking forward to. There's really no excuse for us not to be playing well."
Along with Kevin Durant, Curry has been the driving force behind the Dubs' 3-0 lead over the Cavs in this year's Finals.
He is averaging 28.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 9.0 assists in three Finals games and has the Warriors on the brink of potentially sweeping the Cavaliers and completing a 16-0 postseason.
In comparison, Curry put up just 22.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest in the 2016 NBA Finals.
His three-point percentage is also up from 40.0 percent to 48.4 percent.
During the 2016 playoffs, Curry missed six games over the first two rounds with an MCL injury.
While he recovered to put on a strong performance in the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, he was unquestionably outshined by LeBron James in the NBA Finals.
LeBron is enjoying another great statistical Finals this year, but with Curry and Durant firing on all cylinders, the Dubs are within reach of a second championship in three years.
