Jerry West, Warriors Reportedly Had Talks About Potential Contract Extension
The Golden State Warriors and executive board member Jerry West are reportedly in discussions about extending his contract.
Per Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, West and the Warriors have had "preliminary" contract talks to keep him with the franchise beyond his current deal that is set to expire this summer.
West was hired by the Warriors in May 2011 as an adviser to owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber, who purchased the franchise one year earlier.
Prior to his current role in Golden State, West served as the general manager for the Los Angeles Lakers (1982-94) and Memphis Grizzlies (2002-07). He was named NBA Executive of the Year in 1995 and 2004, while helping the Lakers win six NBA titles during his time in the front office.
The Warriors have made the playoffs each of the last five seasons, including this season, and have made two appearances in the NBA Finals with one win in 2015 since West has been part of the franchise.
The 78-year-old West has become one of the best front-office executives in the NBA after a successful 14-year career in which he was named an All-Star every season he played and was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980.
