Johnson 1st to Total 100-Plus Scrimmage Yards in First 12 Games Since 2005
Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson finished Sunday's 31-23 victory over the Washington Redskins with 18 rushes for 84 yards and a touchdown and nine catches for 91 yards and a touchdown.
Combined, Johnson totaled 175 yards from scrimmage. His effort Sunday made him the first player since Edgerrin James in 2005 to top 100 scrimmage yards in 12 straight games to begin a season, per ESPN Stats & Info. James' NFL record streak came to an end at 13 games.
While the Cardinals have been a bit of a disappointment this season, Johnson has been quite the opposite.
By scoring two touchdowns Sunday, the second-year back out of Northern Iowa became the first Cardinals player since John David Crow in 1962 to score 15 touchdowns in a single season. Crow set the franchise record with 17 that season, and Johnson still has four regular-season games in hand to break it, per Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN.com).
Per Elias, Johnson entered the franchise record books in even more ways Sunday. He became the first Cardinals player to record 10 rushing touchdowns in a season since MacArthur Lane in 1970. Johnson is also now the only Cardinal to score both rushing and receiving touchdowns in three different games during the same season.
For just a second-year running back, Johnson has already etched his name into Cardinals history in impressive fashion. While the Cardinals are just 5-6-1 through 12 games thus far, it's not his fault.
Arizona remains in the hunt for a playoff berth despite its record. However, the club may need Johnson to continue to break records in order to move up the standings.
