Team News

According to the Sun's Alec Shilton, striker Andy Carroll could be set to return to action for the Hammers having resumed training, potentially even in the starting XI.

As for Arsenal, Carl Jenkinson will likely continue at right-back because of Hector Bellerin and Mathieu Debuchy being injured.

Per Dan Gibbs of the Express, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said Olivier Giroud "has a chance to be available for Saturday," but Santi Cazorla will remain on the sidelines after the club took the decision that he needed to undergo surgery. The playmaker is set to be missing for a further three months, the club confirmed.

Predicted West Ham Lineup: Darren Randolph; Cheikhou Kouyate, James Collins, Angelo Ogbonna; Michail Antonio, Pedro Obiang, Mark Noble, Aaron Cresswell; Dimitri Payet, Sofiane Feghouli, Ashley Fletcher

Predicted Arsenal Lineup: Petr Cech; Carl Jenkinson, Shkodran Mustafi, Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal; Granit Xhaka, Francis Coquelin, Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez; Olivier Giroud

Preview

The likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Giroud weren't involved in the defeat to Southampton, but there were plenty of first-team regulars on show, including Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny.

As Bleacher Report UK's James McNicholas noted, the players lacked the fight and intensity that had seen them go 19 games unbeaten prior to the defeat:

Wenger admitted as much himself, per Arsenal's official Twitter feed:

Those who were involved will need to pick themselves up quickly, lest the blow to their morale threatens to derail their Premier League campaign.

The Gunners have won just two of their last five league games, and their returning attacking stars need to step up as well—they've somewhat struggled to trouble their opponents' goal of late, per Squawka Football:

Arsenal did bag three goals in their last league outing, though, so they're perhaps heading in the right direction on that front.

West Ham have fared little better in that regard with just one more shot on target, and they're winless in four league games.

On Wednesday, the Hammers were outplayed from start to finish by United, who tore them open again and again, per the Red Devils' official Twitter feed:

Indeed, if not for goalkeeper Adrian's excellent performance, they could easily have conceded several more.

Mark Noble could return to the lineup to add some composure in front of the back three, but the defence will be a real worry for boss Slaven Bilic.

Not only have they just been thrashed by United, only Crystal Palace, Swansea City and Hull City have conceded more than their 24 goals in the Premier League.

Nevertheless, the game is unlikely to be an easy one for Arsenal, who showed they have not yet completely shaken off the frailty that has afflicted them for some time. That is doubly so if Carroll is able to feature—the powerful striker bagged a hat-trick against them last season, and his strength and aerial prowess can cause the Gunners problems.
