The 49ers announced Ward is available to play in Week 12 against Miami.
Ward Has Been Banged Up in 2016
The injury bug continues to follow Ward in his third season in the NFL. He missed three games from Weeks 3-6 with a quadriceps injury.
In seven games this year, he has racked up 32 total tackles and nine defended passes on a 1-9 San Francisco team whose defense is ranked 31st in the league.
Yet, Ward has been a bright spot for head coach Chip Kelly, per Cam Inman of the Mercury News:
"We think Jimmie is our best corner and our best nickel (back). The ability to cover man-to-man in this league is first and foremost. Ask anybody what you want in the secondary, and they’d want a corner... Jimmie is the one guy that plays all over the place. Jimmie plays in the slot. He plays nickel, he blitzes from that position, and can match up with top receivers on the outside. He’s a rare combination. … That versatility is what puts him at the top for us.”
"
But Ward has played only one full season (2015) out of his first three, having missed eight games in 2014 because of a foot injury.
