Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Julian Draxler and Santi Cazorla

Christopher SimpsonNov 24, 2016

Wolfsburg's sporting director Klaus Allofs has admitted that while the Bundesliga club are not looking to sell Arsenal target Julian Draxler, it could be a possibility after the playmaker expressed a desire to leave in the summer.

According to the Sun's Jake Lambourne, he spoke to German TV channel Sport 1 and referred to Draxler's comments: "The story doesn’t help him, or Wolfsburg. It was catastrophic for the player. We may evaluate the situation differently and may do things differently next time. Does this mean letting him leave? Potentially."

However, he also told WAZ (h/t Lambourne):

It is wrong to think we are looking to sell him. We are not planning to sell anyone. The most important thing is that the impression that Julian wants out disappears. There is absolutely no reason to even talk about Julian leaving in January. I am convinced Julian will not repeat his comments from last summer.

"

BT Sport's Archie-Rhind Tutt relayed Draxler's remarkable interview with German outlet Bild in the summer:

Per Lambourne, the 23-year-old has been on Arsenal's radar for some time and is also a reported target for Juventus.

The versatile midfielder racked up nine goals and eight assists in all competitions last season. Here's a look at some of his highlights:

This season, he's yet to get off the mark on either front, with Wolfsburg struggling in 14th in the Bundesliga with just two wins to their name.

Draxler can play on either flank or as an attacking midfielder, so he could slot in the team alongside Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez without having to step on either's toe.

DW Sports' Stefan Bienkowski even noted another position he could play when comparing him with Borussia Dortmund star Mario Gotze ahead of Germany's UEFA Euro 2016 campaign:

He is also an exceptional dribbler, per Whoscored.com:

While he could fit in alongside Ozil and Sanchez, his addition could have serious ramifications for the futures of Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain—Draxler would be an upgrade on all of them, and one would likely need to make way for his arrival if he joined.

Meanwhile, according to the Sun, Juventus and AC Milan are interested in signing Santi Cazorla in January, and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger could be tempted to part with him—the 31-year-old will be 32 in December and out of contract at the end of the season.

Cazorla is currently on the sidelines at the Emirates Stadium and allowing him to leave this winter would see Arsenal get a fee for his sale, but he's still an important player for the club:

According to Squawka, the Gunners have created 125 chances in the Premier League season—only the ninth-highest in the league and 59 short of Liverpool's 184.

The Spaniard's ability to keep fit could determine the wisdom in selling or keeping him in January—he missed the majority of last season with a knee injury and has been absent for the Gunners' last seven games.

Arsenal won't want him to end up in a similar situation to Mikel Arteta or Tomas Rosicky, as the ageing pair spent most of their final years at the club in the treatment room.

However, the cultured midfielder's creativity and classy touch remain useful to the Gunners, so there's equally a case for keeping hold of him.
