Robert Kelley Comments on Redskins' Rivalry with Cowboys

Joe PantornoNov 22, 2016

Washington Redskins rookie running back Robert Kelley might be new to his team's rivalry with the Dallas Cowboys, but before their clash on Thanksgiving, the 24-year-old didn't mince words about his NFC East counterparts.

On Tuesday, he told Alex Parker of ABC7 that "I know nobody here like the Dallas Cowgirls":

Kelley did not see the field during the Redskins and Cowboys' first matchup this season, which ended with Dallas winning 27-23 in Week 2.

Beginning the year as Matt Jones' backup, Kelley made his debut in Week 3 and worked his way up to starter by Week 8. Since then, he's made a solid case as to why he should be the No. 1 back in Washington for the foreseeable future:

Kelley's comments have now added another dimension to one of the most exciting rivalries in football. With eight combined Super Bowl titles, these two franchises have been playing each other since 1960.

Heading into Thanksgiving, the Cowboys have the upper hand in the rivalry with a 67-44-2 record.

This will be the seventh time that the two are playing on Thanksgiving. The Cowboys won the first five such matchups, but the Redskins won the most recent meeting between the two in 2012.

Providing bulletin board material for the team with the NFL's best record might not be a wise decision for Kelley. At 9-1, Dallas has the league's third-best rush defense and will now have its sights locked on the rookie come Thanksgiving.
