Arsenal vs. PSG: Arsene Wenger's Key Pre-Match Presser Quotes Ahead of UCL Tie
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said the media will now have to find another of his players to link with a departure from the Emirates Stadium after Hector Bellerin committed himself to a new contract.
The Spaniard has long been linked with a return to former club Barcelona or a move to Manchester City, per Paul Hirst of the Times. However, it was confirmed by Arsenal on Monday that he has now signed "a new long-term contract."
Speaking ahead of Arsenal's Wednesday UEFA Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain at the Emirates, Wenger was clearly delighted the 21-year-old right-back has committed his future to the club, per the Evening Standard's James Olley:
Wenger also hit back at criticism for starting Alexis Sanchez in their 1-1 draw with Manchester United at the weekend despite him having been a doubt during the preceding international break—the Daily Telegraph's Jeremy Wilson accused the French manager of over-playing his star forward, per Sky Sports' Andrew Dickson.
The Gunners boss rejected claims that Sanchez had been forced to play, per Olley:
Arsenal's clash with PSG is their penultimate group game in this season's competition, with both sides having already guaranteed themselves a spot in the first knockout round.
However, there is still much to play for in north London, with top spot in Group A guaranteed for either side if they can win Wednesday's match.
The reverse fixture between Arsenal and PSG earlier this season ended 1-1. The Gunners were indebted to a 77th-minute equaliser from Sanchez, but PSG should have had all three points wrapped up long before as they were by far the superior side, with Edinson Cavani missing numerous gilt-edged chances.
Arsenal are in a better position to claim victory on Wednesday as they are at home, but their last two matches have both ended in draws, while PSG have won four on the bounce in all competitions.
The Gunners will also still be without key midfielder Santi Cazorla, who has been absent since October. Wenger explained the Spaniard's situation in his pre-match press conference, per Arsenal:
Arsenal have not topped their Champions League group since the 2011-12 season, and they have paid the price as they have drawn the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the last 16 and been knocked out.
If they could secure top spot with a game remaining by beating PSG, it would improve the Gunners' chances of getting beyond the first knockout round for the first time since 2009-10.
