Knile Davis Released by Packers: Latest Comments and Reaction
The Green Bay Packers announced Monday they have released running back Knile Davis after just two weeks with the team.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network first reported the news.
Green Bay acquired the 25-year-old from the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 18 in exchange for a conditional draft pick. Davis totaled only five rushing yards on five carries in his two games with his new team.
Per Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the conditions of the trade with the Chiefs weren't met, and the Packers won't be sending any compensation to Kansas City.
Don Jackson and fullback Aaron Ripkowski become the only healthy running backs on the Packers roster.
Green Bay first brought Davis into the organization to provide some much-needed depth after injuries to Eddie Lacy and James Starks. Ty Montgomery became the starter at running back in Week 7 and was effective, but he missed Sunday's game with an illness related to sickle cell trait, per Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com.
Despite an apparent lack of options, Davis still saw only three carries and two catches in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons. Jackson finished with 10 rushing yards on four carries, while Ripkowski ended up with six rushes for 34 yards.
Before joining the Packers, Davis had just one carry for minus-two yards in four games played with the Chiefs. He had spent the previous three years in Kansas City, totaling 775 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. He was also a solid kick returner, recording two career touchdowns in the regular season and one in the playoffs.
While Davis was forced out of town thanks to a numbers crunch, Evan Silva of Rotoworld speculated a possible return due to injuries:
Davis is now available to every team in the league on waivers.
