Rudy Gobert, Jazz Reportedly Agree on Contract Extension

Alec NathanOct 30, 2016

The Utah Jazz and center Rudy Gobert have reportedly agreed on a four-year $102 million contract extension according to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.

Earlier Monday, Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reported Gobert and the Jazz were finalizing a new deal.

Gobert appeared in only 61 games last season due to a knee sprain, but he was a game-changer when healthy.

The mammoth 7'1" center averaged 9.1 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.2 blocks last season. In doing so, he joined Hassan Whiteside, DeAndre Jordan and Pau Gasol as the only players to record averages of at least nine points, 11 boards and two blocks over the course of the 2015-16 campaign.

Gobert was also arguably the league's best rim protector. Among players who defended at least eight shots per game at the rim last season, he ranked first with an opponents' field-goal percentage of 41 percent. For context, Gasol ranked No. 2 overall at 46.3 percent.

Given the way Gobert has altered shots below the free-throw line and developed as a scorer, the Jazz were willing to pay top dollar to retain his services.
