WWE SmackDown: Potential Spoilers, Rumors, News and Preview for October 11

Ryan DilbertOct 11, 2016

The warriors who prevailed at Sunday's No Mercy pay-per-view won't have much time to revel in their victories; rivals are waiting to pounce on them on WWE SmackDown.

Bray Wyatt enlisted the aid of Luke Harper to take down Randy Orton at No Mercy. The Viper has found an oversized partner of his own to retaliate against The Wyatt Family.

AJ Styles walked out of Sunday's PPV with the WWE World Championship still in his grasp. Dolph Ziggler staved off forced retirement by dropping The Miz.

It's time now for those titleholders to face their latest challenges.

Will John Cena be around much longer to push Styles to his limit? Is The Phenomenal One set to move on to fresh competition? Will Ziggler be able to hold onto the gold for a sustained stretch?

Backstage news, health updates and the SmackDown preview on WWE.com provide an early look at the post-No Mercy SmackDown. The aftereffects of that event will shape the show starting at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday on the USA Network.

On Tap

After tearing his ACL in March, Harper returned to the ring on Sunday night. Surprisingly, he appeared on the blue brand after much talk of him going to Raw.

Harper aided Wyatt at No Mercy, helping net The Eater of Worlds a cheap win over Orton.

The Viper won't have to wait long to get revenge on Wyatt and Harper. He and Kane will join forces to take down the heels on Tuesday night.

WWE announced the clash on its official Twitter account:

The Wyatt Family has a long history with Kane. He was the stable's first target when it debuted in 2013. The big man has recently been tangling with Wyatt again, including an impromptu No Holds Barred match at Backlash.

News, Potential Spoilers

Women's champ Becky Lynch is out of action, and WWE isn't being forthcoming on what's wrong.

SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon announced on Sunday's No Mercy that Lynch was dealing with a medical issue of some kind. He canceled her title bout, instead pitting No. 1 contender Alexa Bliss against Naomi at the PPV.

Lynch posted a photo of herself in the hospital:

Cena may be stepping away from the ring himself. PWInsider's Mike Johnson wrote,"The second season of Fox's American Grit is slated to begin production next week, so Cena will take a leave of absence after this week."

That leaves one to wonder if WWE will write Cena off the show on Tuesday night.

SmackDown will undergo a less dramatic change as well. Johnson reported, "Charly Caruso, who had been working as a backstage interviewer for the SmackDown brand, has been switched to the Raw brand."

SmackDown Streaks

The Vaudevillains will soon forget what a televised win feels like. WWE has booked Simon Gotch and Aiden English to be SmackDown's bottom feeders.

They fell to The Hype Bros last week, marking the sixth SmackDown loss in a row for the duo, per CageMatch.net. Overall, Gotch and English have lost 10 consecutive matches.

The division needs its low-rung members, but it's odd that WWE has not worked to build any heel team other than The Usos. The Ascension, Breezango and The Vaudevillains are all stagnating.

Apollo Crews is getting to that point.

The NXT transplant has no rivalry or storyline to speak of. And he's not even getting on TV of late.

As seen on CageMatch.net, Crews last competed on SmackDown on Sept. 20. He has now missed two shows in a row. Will he make it three on Tuesday, or will WWE find something for him to do?

No Mercy Fallout

Bliss' title bout against Lynch has now been moved to Nov. 8, as Dave Meltzer noted for Figure Four Online.

In the meantime, the snarling heel will have to deal with Naomi and try to reclaim momentum. Bliss fell to Naomi at No Mercy.

The defeat won't dislodge Bliss from her No. 1 contender's spot, but it looks as if Naomi is set to crowd the women's title picture. Will Naomi prove to just be a transitional rival until Lynch is back, or is the athletic babyface going to earn a championship opportunity of her own?

And while fans will have to wait for Lynch to recover, the wait for Curt Hawkins to compete is over.

The returning Superstar teased his debut for No Mercy but ended up just delivering a brief speech. He did inform the audience, though, that he will have his first match on Tuesday night.

This will be the first look at how his revamped, Chuck Norris-inspired gimmick will translate to actual in-ring action.

Ziggler was No Mercy's biggest winner, both saving his career and seizing the Intercontinental Championship at the PPV.

He will be in a celebratory mood come Tuesday night, but the man he defeated won't be. The Miz is bound to have words for Ziggler.

The WWE.com SmackDown preview asked, "Will The A-Lister ask for an immediate rematch? And what will he have to say after months of antagonizing The Showoff?"

Styles, meanwhile, may be set to head in a different direction after outlasting Cena and Dean Ambrose at No Mercy.

The Lunatic Fringe has now had two unsuccessful shots at reclaiming the WWE World Championship. Cena is poised to take time off.

The SmackDown preview teased the possibility of someone new stepping up to Styles, asking, "Will a new challenger be named for 'The Champ That Runs the Camp?'"

WWE doesn't have to reveal that now. For the first time in weeks, there is no rush to build to the next PPV; Survivor Series isn't until Nov. 20.

That will allow SmackDown to take its time and let its fires slowly build.
