Cameron Wake Comments on Miami Dolphins' Struggles After Loss to Titans
The Miami Dolphins dropped to 1-4 on Sunday with a 30-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans, and defensive end Cameron Wake had an interesting way of describing his team’s constant struggles.
“Poop still tastes the same, I’m sure, no matter if it’s the first time you’ve had it or the fifth time or seventh,” he said, per Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.
Wake hasn’t done much to remove that taste this year. He has just one sack and four combined tackles in five games, and he hasn't registered a tackle in three of Miami’s five contests.
Wake hasn’t resembled the player who had a head-turning 70 sacks in his first seven seasons in the NFL and seven sacks in just seven games last year.
The lack of production isn’t all his fault, though. Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post noted the 34-year-old pass-rusher was on the field for only 31 percent of the Dolphins’ defensive snaps in the first four games because the coaching staff has used him as more of a specialty pass-rusher.
Wake is not the issue in Miami.
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill posted zero touchdowns and two interceptions against the Titans on Sunday, and the rushing attack managed just 51 yards on 17 carries.
Tannehill has six passing touchdowns and seven interceptions on the season, and the abysmal offense ranked 26th in the league in total yards per game and 28th in points per game entering play Sunday. Miami scored just seven points in a Week 4 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and didn’t look much better against the Titans.
Things won’t get easier for the Dolphins.
Next up is a showdown with the 4-1 Pittsburgh Steelers, who have posted a combined 74 points in their last two games. Ben Roethlisberger has attempted 37 or more passes in four of his team’s five games, so Wake may have a chance to make an impact when the Pittsburgh quarterback drops back to throw.
Perhaps things will then taste better for the veteran pass-rusher.
