Mike Tolbert Pays $3,900 Bill in Change After Being Unhappy with Auto Service
Carolina Panthers fullback Mike Tolbert is going to have to find a new place to get his car fixed.
After disputing the price of his service, Tolbert was apparently unable to pay with a check. At that point, he chose a different approach, per David Newton of ESPN.com:
"They said they won't take my check, it wasn't going to clear the bank. I was like, 'Whew! You're throwing shots. So I've got one for you.'
So I went to the bank and got $3,900 in coins. It was pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters ... everything. I didn't care one bit. I took a truck load of it and put it right there where he wanted it, and got my truck towed back to my buddy's shop.
"
The All-Pro player also took to Instagram to complain about Motion Lab Tuning:
He said it took more than two months to fix what was quoted as a 10-day completion time.
According to Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer, the police were called in response to "persons making threats." Tolbert and his friend were banned from the establishment.
As for the passive-aggressive move of paying in change, that didn't cause too much of a problem for the shop owner.
"All $3,900 in coins were easily identifiable as they came from a bank in boxes and perfectly counted out," owner Todd Marcellini said, per Newton. "I will say this, those coins will be taken in the boxes they came in and will be taken to a teller at BOA for deposit."
