Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt: Winner and Reaction from WWE No Mercy 2016

Mike ChiariOct 9, 2016

Bray Wyatt's mind games finally got the better of Randy Orton Sunday night, as the Eater of Worlds prevailed in a grudge match at WWE No Mercy.

Luke Harper emerged to distract Orton, allowing Wyatt to execute the Sister Abigail and land the three-count for the win.

WWE provided an image of the winner and Harper along with video of Harper's surprise entrance:

As Scott Fishman of the Miami Herald sarcastically noted, it's been a while since Wyatt was victorious in a PPV:

The rivalry between The Viper and Wyatt began shortly after Orton's loss to Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. Wyatt attempted to pick the bones and take advantage of the damage done by the Beast Incarnate, but Orton refused to back down.

That set the stage for a match at Backlash, but the New Face of Fear jumped Orton prior to the bout and attacked him in the backstage area.

The Apex Predator was rendered unable to compete, and Wyatt instead took on Kane. Orton wasn't done for the night, though, as he interfered in the contest by hitting an unsuspecting Wyatt with an RKO, which allowed Kane to win the match.

That added further fuel to the feud between Orton and Wyatt, and it intensified even more during the weeks leading up to No Mercy.

One of the overarching discussions throughout their storyline has been the question of who is the predator and who is the prey. That took center stage on an episode of SmackDown a couple of weeks prior to the pay-per-view.

It began with Orton suggesting that Wyatt had some reservations about stepping up and challenging him without schemes or misdirection, per WWE's official Twitter account:

Wyatt brushed that aside and did everything possible to establish his dominance and to make it clear he was in control:

That led to an interesting game of cat and mouse between the two Superstars with Wyatt leading Orton through a backstage maze.

Rather than falling into his maniacal opponent's traps, however, Orton created his own path and eventually managed to both find and attack Wyatt, sending the Man of 1,000 Truths scurrying.

After weeks of anticipation and buildup, Orton and Wyatt were finally able to get their hands on each other within the confines of the squared circle Sunday, and it led to a vicious brawl with both men clearly attempting to destroy the other.

In the end, Wyatt managed to pick up a crucial victory that could finally allow him to gain some momentum, but it seems unlikely that Orton will go quietly.

With so much animosity built up between them, Orton and Wyatt could potentially continue their battle for a long time to come, and that should add some much-needed intrigue to the blue brand's midcard.
