David Blatt Reportedly Will Receive 2015-16 NBA Championship Ring from Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers fired former head coach David Blatt midway through the 2015-16 season, but they plan on rewarding him with a championship ring for his service.
Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal reported Thursday the Cavaliers ordered Blatt a ring, though it is unclear whether the former coach will be part of the team's ring presentation and banner raising Oct. 25.
The 57-year-old led the Cavaliers to a 30-11 mark before being fired and replaced by Tyronn Lue last season. Lue took Cleveland to its second straight NBA Finals, leading the first-ever comeback from a 3-1 series deficit in the Finals against the Golden State Warriors.

Lue said Blatt reached out to show his support during the Cavaliers' playoff run. Cleveland was 83-40 during his tenure, making him one of the most successful coaches in recent memory to lose his job. There were nevertheless constant rumors of a rift between Blatt and star LeBron James, along with criticism of the coach's in-game decision-making.
"He definitely deserves another chance," Lue said in April, per ESPN.com. "I thought Coach Blatt did a great and phenomenal job here. He taught me a lot. Just being friends with him and getting a chance to understand him was great for me. I know a lot of guys around here, we talked about it the other day, they miss him and his presence."
Blatt accepted a head coaching position with Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul of the Turkish Basketball Super League after failing to land an NBA gig. He is one of the most successful coaches in European basketball history, having won the 2014 Euroleague championship and earned four Israeli League Coach of the Year awards.
A former Cavs player won't be receiving a championship ring, however. Anderson Varejao, who signed with the Warriors midway through the 2015-16 campaign after more than a decade with the Cavs, told reporters in July he would not accept a ring if offered.
