Projecting Best Roles for Triple H on WWE Raw Following Return
Triple H's return to WWE programming on Monday night sent shock waves through the company, and there's a fascinating amount of avenues he can go down next.
Babyface or heel. Authority figure or renegade. The possibilities appear endless for The Game right now. He could even return to in-ring competition.
Next Monday's edition of Raw will clear the air somewhat and offer an intriguing look ahead as to what Triple H will be doing. But for now, there's no harm in speculating.
Does The Game have a new relationship with Kevin Owens to strengthen? Or does he have his own reasons for interfering in Monday's main event?
Here's a look at what The Game's best roles might be moving forward.
A Babyface Authority Figure with a Babyface Kevin Owens
1 of 3
Right now, it's unclear who the babyfaces and heels are following Monday's dramatic Raw finale.
Triple H as a babyface authority figure hasn't been tried out yet, and if it's going to be him and Kevin Owens against the rest, why not present them as good guys?
As the man behind NXT, Triple H could start a campaign against The Authority (Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley), claiming they're running Raw into the ground.
That could be why he used his power as COO to return on Monday: to have a direct influence on WWE affairs at the top end.
It could turn out that he chose Owens as WWE's new man at the top, thinking it was time for change.
The positive of this? It would keep Seth Rollins heel while also enabling Stephanie to work as a heel, and that is a role they both flourish in.
It would also create a fascinating dynamic for Owens, who is already popular with WWE fans, moving forward.
The Man Who Makes a 3-Way Brand War
2 of 3
So far, it's been assumed in the opening month of the brand extension that WWE is pitting Raw and SmackDown against each other. But what if that war has a third component?
It would be far-fetched to call it an actual invasion, but with Triple H's strong roots in NXT, could he be secretly leading the charge of NXT alumni on the main roster?
WWE could reveal that Triple H convinced McMahon and Foley to draft Finn Balor, NXT's top guy before his promotion to the main roster.
Factor in recent NXT call-ups like Nia Jax and Bayley, as well as Owens' new status as universal champion, and it could turn out that Triple H was planning to convince everyone of what he was saying about NXT all along: The future is now.
From there, more NXT wrestlers could invade Raw and SmackDown when they're ready, and Triple H's troops could run riot over both flagship shows.
It would take a lot of careful booking and planning, but the seeds were laid on Monday's Raw for Triple H and NXT to take on the rest, with Owens, one of NXT's most popular alumni, winning the championship.
An Active Competitor to Battle Seth Rollins
3 of 3
Triple H returning and essentially handing the WWE Universal Championship to Kevin Owens immediately sets up the prospect of Owens vs. Rollins for the title. Or does it?
With Owens as a heel champion, there are a lot of babyfaces on Raw who could realistically step up if Rollins was out of the picture and doing something else—like feuding with Triple H himself.
The storyline and subplots are so obvious that it seems like doing anything else would be foolish. Rollins is The Authority's main man who was handpicked but quickly got too big for his boots.
How big? He even started using Triple H's signature move and making it out to be his own.
Frustrated at how egotistical Rollins has become, it could be that The Game has returned to deny him the WWE Universal Championship and try to take him down once and for all.
It would make Rollins a babyface, let someone else step into the title picture to take on Owens and create a whole new look for Raw.
All things considered, this could be the best thing for Triple H following his return to WWE.
