Philippe Coutinho Injury: Liverpool Star Undergoing Evaluation on Hamstring
Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho could miss the Reds' Premier League trip to Southampton on Saturday with a tight hamstring.
According to James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, the Brazilian missed training on Thursday and instead had a scan on his hamstring at the Spire Hospital.
Being without Coutinho will be a major blow for manager Jurgen Klopp, as the former Inter Milan man is the key creative fulcrum at Anfield.
Since joining the Reds in 2013, the midfielder has been making steady improvements. Whether playing off the left flank or in support of the centre-forward, Coutinho can spot a pass, jink past opponents and change the course of a game with his penchant for spectacular strikes.
Liverpool do have plenty of options in the attacking-midfield positions, and have Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane to call upon, but Adam Lallana is likely to miss the game as well with a "minor groin problem."
Liverpool will likely find things more difficult against Saints without their attacking talisman if he fails to make the grade. Klopp will be hopeful Coutinho can make a fast recovery and bring his offensive stardust back to the starting XI.
