Highlight of the Day
For one last time, Usain Bolt took the track at the Olympics in the men's 4x100-meter relay alongside Jamaican teammates Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake and Nickel Ashmeade.
Like he has in every other event on the world's biggest sporting stage, Bolt won gold, pulling off a rare feat:
Running the anchor leg of the race, he received the baton with the United States and Japan virtually tied with him with 100 meters to go.
But like he has on so many occasions, the 29-year-old built a comfortable cushion effortlessly, cruising to a victory, as NBC Olympics showed:
The United States finished in third behind Japan, but the Americans would not keep the bronze medal, as they were disqualified for an illegal exchange. However, USA Track and Field filed an appeal later Friday night in an attempt to overturn the decision.
Bolt's ninth gold medal put him in rarefied air, as he joined Carl Lewis of the United States and Paavo Nurmi of Finland as the only track and field athletes to win that much gold, per SportsCenter.
It was a fitting end to a glorious Olympic career for Bolt, who has set the bar high for the sprinters of the future.
