Aqib Talib Shooting Investigation: Latest Details on Broncos CB's Incident
Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib was shot in the leg in June, and the incident is reportedly still under investigation.
According to Colleen O’Connor of the Denver Post, “Dallas police said Wednesday they have not yet ruled out that [Talib] might have shot himself in the leg.”
O’Connor noted “Talib said he was at a Dallas park about 3:40 a.m. on June 5 when he was shot, according to police, but was ‘too intoxicated’ to remember how he was shot.”

Talib has been part of the Broncos’ training camp and didn’t need surgery after the incident.
Part of the investigation centers around whether Talib was shot at the park or a strip club, per O’Connor. O’Connor wrote that “two men were shot at a Dallas strip club by an unknown suspect” near the same time Talib was also shot.
Talib could be suspended by the NFL for a violation of the personal conduct policy in addition to any potential legal consequences.
Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post broke down the various ramifications and variables still lingering regarding the shooting in June and said “where he was shot, who shot him, if he was intoxicated, if he was carrying a handgun, if he was licensed to carry a handgun in Texas and if he fired a handgun” could all play a role in both the investigation and the NFL's possible punishment.
According to Jhabvala, possessing a handgun without a license somewhere that sells liquor (like the strip club) is a third-degree felony in Texas and carries a punishment of two to 10 years in prison.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network passed along a report from the Dallas Police Department after the incident occurred:
Rapoport pointed out there was no mention of Talib shooting himself in that report (which also said an “unknown suspect shot the complainant”). TMZ Sports shared footage on its YouTube page of the scene:
While this is lingering over Talib, the physical health of his leg doesn’t appear to be much of an issue at training camp, per Josina Anderson of ESPN:
Talib is a three-time Pro Bowler who played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots before joining the Broncos in 2014. He has 30 career interceptions and notched five total tackles in Denver’s Super Bowl victory over the Carolina Panthers.
