McCarthy Comments on Lacy's Injury
Thursday, Oct. 13
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters that Lacy is "good" and that the team would see what he could do Thursday.
On Wednesday, McCarthy told the media that Lacy would rehab his ankle Wednesday instead of practicing, adding that the team was "still evaluating" things at the position.
On Monday, McCarthy told reporters that Lacy underwent testing but that "it's not serious."
Lacy Still Looking to Rebound After Poor 2015 Season
The injury occurred in the third quarter of the Giants game, and the running back didn't return. He received treatment on a training table after posting 81 yards on 11 carries.
Lacy had a strong start to his NFL career, rushing for over 1,100 yards in 2013 and 2014. Then came his underwhelming 2015 campaign. He rushed for just 758 yards and three touchdowns, and McCarthy was openly critical about the running back's weight in January.
The 26-year-old appeared to have slimmed down when he showed up for Green Bay's training camp. ESPN's Rob Demovsky shared a photo of Lacy in May:
Staying healthy and getting back to his old self are important for Lacy since he's a free agent at the end of the year. He could earn or lose money in the coming weeks based on his health and performance.
Another lackluster or injury-plagued campaign may lead teams to question Lacy's long-term value, while a rebound year could make him a premier running back on the open market.
For the Packers, maintaining a steady running game is necessary in order to be a serious title contender. Aaron Rodgers may be one of the NFL's best quarterbacks, but that's not enough to get over the hump in the NFC
