Fuller Looking to Regain September Success for Texans
The Texans selected the speedy wideout with the 21st overall pick in this year's draft in an effort to bolster a sluggish aerial attack. Instead, that aspect of the offense, which ranked 18th last year, has dropped off further because of new quarterback Brock Osweiler's struggles.
After back-to-back games with over 100 receiving yards to start the season, Fuller hasn't hit that mark since.
While the Notre Dame product has remained mostly healthy, injuries are part of the reason he's playing for Houston. He said that watching other players get hurt while with the Irish was a key reason he left school early, per Nick Ironside of 247Sports.
If Fuller misses more action, Jaelen Strong and Braxton Miller figure to receive the most additional playing time with the first team opposite DeAndre Hopkins. It could also represent an opportunity for Keith Mumphery to see a more defined role in the passing game.
Although the Texans do feature some depth at the position, they will miss Fuller's big-play ability for as long as he's out of the lineup. He showcased a lot of potential during the early weeks of his rookie season, and Houston sorely needs its playmakers on the field to energize the offense.
