New Day's Feud with Wyatt Family Will Create a Deeper Connection with WWE Fans

Alfred KonuwaJul 4, 2016

The New Day is WWE's hottest act, and its popularity is like a runaway train.

With live arenas eating out of its hands and fans being addicted to the power of positivity, the volatile nature of the New Day's success is liable to get too big for its own good. The more the New Day rests on its laurels, the more the stable puts itself in danger of becoming too mainstream, which would inevitably provoke the same boos heard for polarizing stars such as John Cena and Roman Reigns.

This is the Reality Era, home of an all-time cynical fanbase that is constantly looking for reasons to hate everything. As popular as it is, the New Day is not exempt from the dangers of this reality.

Enter the Wyatt Family, which is beginning to add a new layer of interest to the otherwise fun-loving nature of the New Day. Since their feud began, Xavier Woods has become increasingly distant, apparently entertaining the idea of crossing over to the backwoods stable.

The tease of Woods succumbing to the power of Bray Wyatt's spell is an interesting twist that will force fans to realize just how much they appreciate the New Day.

Forget about getting sick of the WWE world tag team champions. Fans might not even have a chance to say goodbye.

Instead of the increasingly difficult task of the team having to outdo itself each week, this angle will allow the New Day to take a step back and play around with the idea of splitting up.

What if Woods becomes a Wyatt? No more custom, home-cooked entrances. No more chanting "New Day Rocks!" No more New Day socks.

No more Booty-O's cereal.

That's the dangerous, dark world that fans will have to come to terms with, which makes it more difficult to take this charismatic trio for granted.

If this feud keeps going the way it is, Woods will—at the very least—be on the verge of joining the Wyatts before returning to his post as leader of the New Day, allowing fans to breathe one big sigh of release.

At worst? Woods grows a beard, gets fitted for a jumpsuit and trades in his happy-go-lucky persona for a brooding stare and possibly a creepy unicorn mask. All these possibilities add new dimensions to the otherwise innocent house party that the New Day brings to WWE rings around the world.

When all is said and done, it will only make the New Day matter more.
