Ingram Struggling to Shake Injury Bug
Injuries have been the defining aspect of Ingram's career. He was a first-round draft pick out of Alabama in 2011 but has managed to play all 16 games in a season just once, in 2012.
The Saints don't utilize the running game a lot with Drew Brees at quarterback, though he's getting older and, while still very good at 37, isn't capable of shouldering the entire load like he used to.
Ingram has become a more dependable runner in terms of production when he is healthy, averaging over four yards per carry each of the last three seasons. He also set a career high with 50 catches out of the backfield in 2015, adding more tools to his arsenal. He finished second among all running backs last year in Pro Football Focus' elusive rating that measures the number of missed tackles by opposing defenders.
Tim Hightower would take the majority of reps at running back if Ingram is limited or forced back to the sideline in the future. Hightower finished second on the team with 375 rushing yards last year and started three games.
