Jones Reportedly Out for Season
Wednesday, Oct. 19
Dolphins head coach Adam Gase announced during a conference call on Wednesday morning that Jones won't be able to play again this season. The team announced that he has been placed on injured reserve.
Jones Injury a Crushing Blow to Dolphins Defense
After appearing in just 12 contests during the 2014 season because of a four-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs, Jones rebounded and played in all 16 Dolphins games a year ago for the third time in his career.
Throughout his most prolific campaign to date, Jones tallied career highs in interceptions (five) and total tackles (135) en route to earning his first Pro Bowl nod in 2015.
"For three of the past four seasons, Jones has been one of the best safeties in the league," Pro Football Focus' John Kosko wrote. "While his pass coverage is inconsistent, his playmaking ability as a rusher and in the run game warrant consideration."
So far this season, Jones has tallied 51 tackles to go with one interception and four defended passes.
With the 28-year-old forced to the sidelines, the Dolphins can turn to Walt Aikens in his absence.
