Penguins Parade 2016: Latest Details for Pittsburgh's Stanley Cup Celebration
The Pittsburgh Penguins brought the Stanley Cup back to the city for the fourth time in the franchise's history on Sunday night, defeating the San Jose Sharks 3-1 at the SAP Center.
The Sharks took the series to a sixth game after Pittsburgh missed the chance to win the Cup at home in five, but Conn Smythe Trophy winner Sidney Crosby and the Penguins made sure that San Jose wouldn't see a Game 7 with a decisive win on Sunday.
After all, the Penguins are no strangers to winning big on the road, as ESPN Stats & Info pointed out:
Crosby had 19 postseason points en route to winning the Conn Smythe Trophy. In his postgame media conference, he referenced his consecutive Stanley Cup Final appearances in 2008 and 2009.
"I have a greater appreciation this time around," Crosby said, per the New York Times' David Pollak.
The team shared video via Twitter of Crosby's acceptance of the trophy—which, unfortunately, occurred in enemy territory:
Sportsnet shared the team's ecstatic celebration after all was said and done:
On Monday, the city of Pittsburgh announced the details of the Pens' victory parade, which will take place in downtown Pittsburgh on Wednesday, beginning at 11:30 a.m. ET:
CBS Pittsburgh's Kym Gable had details on the parade route so you can stake out your perfect spot:
"The route will begin on Grant Street at Liberty Avenue, travel along Grant Street to the Boulevard of the Allies, turn right onto the Boulevard of the Allies and will end at the intersection of the Boulevard of the Allies and Stanwix Street.
A stage will be set up at Stanwix Street for celebratory remarks from Pittsburgh Penguins personnel.
"
If you plan to drive, DowntownPittsburgh.com will have parking information, but city officials are urging fans to take public transportation; after all, nearly 400,000 turned out for the 2009 celebration, per CBS Pittsburgh.
TribLive.com issued a tongue-in-cheek warning for Pittsburgh businesses that many of their employees may not show up to work on Wednesday along with details about the parade:
While we can't advocate calling in sick, it's hard to imagine missing this celebration.
Maybe your boss needs to know about that sore throat you have coming on.
