College Baseball Super Regionals 2016: Results, Highlights, Bracket from Friday
The journey toward the 2016 College World Series continued with the start of the NCAA Division i Super Regionals on Friday.
Four games featuring eight of the nation's best teams kicked off a full weekend of college baseball action Friday. Five of the clubs in action are No. 1 seeds, with the East Carolina Pirates and Boston College Eagles playing the role of Cinderella as No. 3 seeds trying to pull off upsets.Ā
The Super Regionals are contested in a best-of-three format, so one loss in the opening game doesn't spell doom for a team, though it does increase the sense of urgency moving forward.

Arizona vs. Mississippi State
In a tight pitching battle, Arizona was able to pull out a 1-0 upset against Mississippi State.
The Bulldogs spent much of the season in the Top 10 of the national rankings, and the team went with ace Dakota Hudson on Friday. The St. Louis Cardinals drafted Hudson in the first round of the MLB draft Thursday.
Hudson was solid, going 6.1 innings while allowing one run and seven hits. Yet Arizona's Bobby Dalbec threw a gem.
Dalbec, whom the Boston Red Sox drafted in the fourth round, pitched 8.2 innings to the tune of no runs and five hits allowed. He also struck out nine Bulldogs.
He shouldered a heavy workload, per Baseball America's Hudson Belinsky:
"Bobby Dalbec threw 129 pitches tonight.

Cameron Ming provided the final out of the game.
JJ Matijevic's RBI double in the sixth inning was the deciding play of the game, as he drove in Ryan Aguilar. NCAA Baseball gave a look at the conclusion of the play:
"Matijevic's opposite-field double cracks the scoreboard for the Wildcats!

This was a huge win for Arizona, who was able to beat Mississippi State's best pitcher to get within one win of the College World Series.
Mississippi State has the roster to come back and win the series. The team was successful in the rugged SEC this season, so the Bulldogs are battle-tested.
Boston College vs. Miami
Boston College sent out ace Justin Dunn, a first-round pick of the New York Mets, but Miami was able to rough him up en route to 12-7 victory.
Michael Mediavilla threw 7.2 innings, allowing two runs and four hits, to lead the Hurricanes to the win in the Super Regional series.
Dunn only lasted 5.1 innings as he conceded five runs and six hits. Boston College's relievers did not fare any better, as they combined for seven more earned runs.
Star catcher Zack Collins, another first round pick, and Johnny Ruiz led the way for Miami.
Collins jacked a three-run shot in the third inning, which Ruiz matched with a solo homer of his own two batters later.
Ruiz added a grand slam in the eighth inning, which set a personal record for the second baseman, per Miami's Twitter account:
A pinch-hit home run from Scott Braren cut the deficit in half in the top of the ninth, but the Hurricanes built enough of a lead to hold on for the win.Ā
Boston College threw its best pitching option at Miami, and the Hurricanes proceeded to hammer the ball. The Eagles may not have the pitching depth to match their opponent's offensive firepower, so they are in trouble for Game 2 on Saturday.
East Carolina vs. Texas Tech
East Carolina pulled an upset Friday by taking down nationally seeded Texas Tech 8-6 in the first game of the teams' Super Regional series.Ā
The Pirates used a five-run fifth inning to break the game open. A runner scored after a hit-by-pitch before Travis Watkins blasted a grand slam. Watkins finished the day with six RBI.
Evan Kruczynski earned the win after a tossing 5.2 innings with three runs allowed and six strikeouts. His replacement, Sam Lanier, was roughed up with three earned runs in 0.2 innings, but Matt Bridges shut the door to close out the game.
Davis Martin struggled for the Aggies, as he gave up nine hits and five earned runs in 4.1 innings. Tyler Neslony paced his team with three RBI, but it was not enough to keep Texas Tech from falling into a 1-0 series hole.
The two teams will meet on Saturday, and East Carolina should feel confident after the offensive output from Game 1. Texas Tech is national seed for a reason, though, and the Aggies should come out with much intensity.
Look for Texas Tech to squeak out a win to force a decisive Game 3.Ā
TCU vs. Texas A&M
The TCU Horned Frogs won Fridayās contest against the Texas A&M Aggies with relative ease, 8-2.
Starting pitcher Jared Janczak was brilliant for TCU after a rough first inning and finished with two earned runs allowed in 7.2 innings of work. From there, Brian Trieglaff and Ryan Burnett clinched the win by combining for 1.1 innings of shutout baseball from the bullpen.
On the other side, Texas A&M starter Brigham Hill was crushed in 4.2 innings pitched. He allowed eight runs, seven of which were earned, on six hits and four walks. The Aggies bullpen didnāt give up any additional damage, but it was too late at that point.
TCU scored a quick two runs in the top of the first, but Texas A&M answered with two of its own in the bottom half of the frame off a two-RBI double from Michael Barash. Those were the first and last runs for the Aggies for the remainder of the game.
The Horned Frogs pushed three runs across in the third and added three more runs in the fifth. Luken Baker drilled a three-run home run in the third, while Ryan Merrill drove in two in the fifth with a double down the line.
TCU will have plenty of momentum on its side heading into the next contest and a relatively fresh bullpen after Janczak settled down after the first.
