Seth Rollins' Best Potential Feuds Upon His Return to WWE Programming
With a depleted roster beginning to work its way back to full health, WWE fans can feel optimistic about what is ahead for the company in the coming months.
Big names are set to return to in-ring competition, and arguably the biggest name of all is that of former WWE world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins.
Rollins has been out of action since injuring himself on a European tour late last year, having to relinquish the title he had held since WrestleMania in the process.
But how can WWE bring him back to television with a bang?
Here's a look at some of his likely feuds.
Roman Reigns
The obvious choice, but one that makes sense on a lot of levels.
Why? Reigns is the current champion, of course, and providing he doesn't lose the title to AJ Styles this Sunday at Extreme Rules, he will be champ for a while longer yet.
That means that there's a simple yet engrossing piece of storytelling right away. Rollins is the guy hungry to get back what he never actually lost, with Reigns keen to show that he's now the company's No. 1 star.
But there's so many more reasons why this could work. With Reigns slowly morphing into a heel as the weeks go on, WWE has the perfect opportunity to bring Rollins back as a babyface.
We saw from the reaction he got at last year's Slammy Awards that he is hugely over with the fans. He's incredibly talented in the ring and has real charisma on the microphone. He's the full package, and he would certainly work as a babyface.
When you throw in The Shield's history, with both men suggesting they were the strongest member of that faction, this is a feud that has everything.
Dean Ambrose
The third member of The Shield could also be used as a potential rival for Rollins on his return to action.
Don't forget that Rollins vs. Ambrose was WWE's hottest feud of the last couple of years, with both men upping their games and bringing their very best when it mattered.
It would mean Rollins coming back as a heel, but that's no bad thing, as he could work both heel and babyface characters to perfection.
WWE should have Rollins come down and make the save on Ambrose one night, perhaps just after his feud with Chris Jericho is over. It looks like they're going to be allies, and the story could even play out for a good couple of weeks.
Then, after they win a routine tag match together, Rollins can turn on Ambrose and set up a compelling few months' worth of action.
It could culminate at SummerSlam in an epic match or roll on beyond that. The two trade can wins, reference their past in The Shield and, most crucially of all, have Roman Reigns nowhere near them.
This needs to be about Rollins vs. Ambrose. Nobody else. Do it right, and WWE will have a masterpiece on its hands.
With both Rollins and Randy Orton easing their way back onto WWE television, why not have them both square off against each other?
They have recent history in that they've both been the face of The Authority, and with that in mind, there's a way they could be incorporated into an existing storyline.
It looks like the friendship between Stephanie and Shane McMahon will explode eventually, though they seem to be getting on well of late.
So when Stephanie does cause the split in their relationship, each guy can side with one McMahon. Orton can align with Shane, and Seth can return to work alongside Stephanie.
Sure, it means a revival of The Authority of sorts, but there's enough of a change in dynamic to suggest this might just work.
Bray Wyatt
Finally, there's the alternative option.
Rollins and Bray Wyatt have history during the brief feud between The Shield and The Wyatt Family, but this would be something entirely different.
They're two of the most popular stars on the roster, and to give them the chance to square off one-on-one would be smart booking by WWE.
Rollins could be the babyface who is being tormented by Bray, with those creepy promos and attacks by The Wyatt Family making him look vulnerable over and over again.
Yet when he does manage to stand up to the power of the family, it will only enhance his standing as a top babyface.
It's different, and it's not as straightforward as the other rivalries mentioned, but brave booking has a better chance of working with someone like Rollins.
