Kentucky Derby 2016 Purse: Prize-Money Payout for Each Owner, Horse and Jockey
Nyquist remained perfect on one of the biggest stages in horse racing with a decisive win at the 142nd Kentucky Derby on Saturday.
With the eighth win of his career, he became the eighth unbeaten Derby winner of all time and the first 8-0 Derby winner since Majestic Prince in 1969.

NBC Sports showed the race replay:
Danzing Candy, a speed horse who started out of stall No. 20, took the early lead and set the pace.
Because he was starting from so far outside, he had to start fast to get around the field to the inside. He took a lead as large as 2 1/2 lengths early on, but Gun Runner and Nyquist were lurking behind.
Heading into the far turn, Gun Runner took the lead, but it didn't last long, as the powerful Nyquist moved in front on the outside stretch.
He stayed there comfortably heading down the homestretch despite a final push from Exaggerator, who was expected to come on late to challenge for the win. But he could come only within 1 1/4 lengths of the winner.
O'Neill knew he had a special horse, and the Kentucky Derby victory was further confirmation of that, as he told NBC Sports after the race (via At the Races):
The trainer will have an opportunity to make another charge at history, as he did in 2012 with I'll Have Another. But that horse, who won the first two legs of the Triple Crown, had to withdraw just before the start of the Belmont Stakes with tendinitis.
Nyquist's win means even more to O'Neill after he got so close four years ago, per Scout.com's Jody Demling:
Next up is the Preakness Stakes on May 21, when Nyquist will look to snatch the second jewel of the Triple Crown in the 1 3/16-mile race at Pimlico Race Course.
If he can pull off a win at the Preakness, Nyquist, who has known nothing but the winner's circle in his career, will have an opportunity to make one of the rarest feats in sports seem common by following up American Pharoah's 2015 Triple Crown with one of his own in 2016.
