Hornets Have Depth to Handle Lamb's Injury
The Hornets acquired Lamb prior to the 2015-16 season and made the somewhat surprising step of signing him to what ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported was a three-year, $21 million extension. Even with the NBA's salary cap set to rise, giving Lamb that much money was something of a risk.
The 24-year-old became a productive role player in the Queen City. He came off the bench to appear in 66 games and average 8.8 points a night on 45.1 percent shooting. He also had a nice impact on the defensive end, with the Hornets allowing 8.8 fewer points per 100 possessions with him on the court, per NBA.com.
Charlotte bolstered its depth at 2-guard by trading for Marco Belinelli in the offseason. While that limited Lamb's playing time at the position, the former Connecticut Huskies star is capable of filling in at small forward, which is important for the Hornets given Michael Kidd-Gilchrist's injury history.
As things stand now, missing Lamb means the team is without a strong perimeter defender and capable three-point shooter. If Kidd-Gilchrist goes down too, then the Hornets could be in trouble.
