Aaron Ramsey Injury: Arsenal Midfielder Injures Hamstring vs. Liverpool
Arsenal's midfield took a blow on Sunday, when Aaron Ramsey suffered a hamstring injury during the Premier League opener against Liverpool.
As MailOnline Sport reported, he was taken off for Santi Cazorla early in the second half and left the pitch visibly limping. On Monday, Jeremy Wilson of the Telegraph reported Ramsey will be sidelined for a month, with the hope he will be able to return for a Sept. 10 match against Southampton.
Ramsey is often the unappreciated man in the Gunners' midfield ranks, but the former Cardiff City prodigy is actually one of manager Arsene Wenger's key players and a talisman for Chris Coleman at the international level.
At his best, Ramsey combines a keen eye for goal with tremendous reserves of energy. No other Arsenal or Wales midfielder has his knack for making well-timed late runs and finishing with composure. He reserved some of his best football for the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament, setting himself up for a big 2016-17 campaign.
Ramsey also boasts the technical quality Wenger admires, even though he can sometimes be guilty of getting a little too cute with his passing. Yet it's his box-to-box style his league and national sides will miss the most with him sidelined.
In an era of regimented positioning, where every man in the middle seems to be dubbed either a holding player or a No. 10, Ramsey is more of a traditional midfielder.
His efforts at both ends of the pitch provide a natural link between deep-lying players, such as Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny and summer signing Granit Xhaka, and attacking midfielders, like Mesut Ozil, for the Gunners.
Both Wenger and Coleman will hope Ramsey can make a swift return to action despite the reported timeline of a month. This is the kind of nightmare start to the season Wenger hoped to avoid, and while he does have Swiss international Xhaka to fall back on, his midfield depth will already be tested.
