Big Boss Man to Be Inducted into 2016 WWE Hall of Fame
WWE announced Monday that the Big Boss Man will be the next inductee into the company's Hall of Fame. CBS Sports' Adam Silverstein first reported the news of his induction.
Boss Man joins Sting, The Godfather and the Fabulous Freebirds in this year's class.
Wrestling television personalities Eric Bischoff and Gene Okerlund both praised WWE's decision to honor the legendary Superstar:
The Big Boss Man was one of WWE's top babyfaces in the early 1990s after splitting with Akeem and breaking up the Twin Towers. His feud with The Mountie culminated in one of the more memorable moments in SummerSlam history:
After leaving WWE in 1993, the Boss Man jumped to WCW, where he cycled through various gimmicks, eventually abandoning his law-enforcement theme entirely to return to his Big Bubba Rogers persona, which he used when first breaking through with Jim Crockett Promotions in the late 1980s.
He main-evented the first episode of Nitro in 1995 in a WCW Championship match with Hulk Hogan, which ultimately ended in defeat.
The Big Boss Man returned to WWE in 1998, where he enjoyed his most successful run with the company in terms of accolades. He won the WWE Tag Team Championship with Ken Shamrock and held the Hardcore Championship on four occasions:
While not the most decorated Superstar of his era, the Big Boss Man left a major mark on WWE, and his energetic style on the microphone proved to be infectious for countless wrestling fans.
This year's Hall of Fame class is already loaded with marquee names, but with WrestleMania 32 a little under a month away, at least one or two spots should still be open. The company will likely finalize the induction class in the coming weeks.
