WWE Superstar Power Rankings for Week of February 29

The Doctor Chris MuellerFeb 29, 2016

The WWE Superstar power rankings shifted quite a bit after an eventful week. A few people broke into the top 10, some fell out, and a few moved up and down the list.

The return of Shane McMahon was one of the few surprises WWE has managed to keep under wraps in years, and it was one the fans responded to with a lot of enthusiasm.

WrestleMania 32 is still a long ways away in April, but the card is already starting to take shape. It's good for WWE to space things out when it adds new matches, but it's also nice to see so many developments so soon.

Let's take a look at how the top 10 has changed over the past week.

10. Kevin Owens

1 of 10

Previous Rank: No. 5

Kevin Owens fell down the list a bit this week, but it's not because of anything he did wrong. He was completely left out of Raw and had an uneventful match on SmackDown.

Owens is one of WWE's most entertaining heels, but he is stuck in the midcard scene at the moment, and that means he will sometimes fall to the wayside.

Entering into a feud with Big Show is an interesting direction for WWE to take Owens' character. They won't have any five-star matches, but besting a giant could help Owens in the long run.

Owens' reign as intercontinental champion has needed a shot in the arm, and hopefully Big Show can help make him look good.

9. Sasha Banks

2 of 10

Previous Rank: No. 7

Like Owens, Sasha Banks fell down the list a bit, but it was through no fault of her own. She had a good match with Naomi on Raw, but some of the other talents in the top 10 outshined her.

Banks is the future of the Divas division. She is only 24 years old and already miles ahead of a lot of other Divas in terms of technical ability and mic skills.

Banks will be taking on Becky Lynch to see who gets to challenge Charlotte for the Divas Championship next, and after what we have seen from these two in NXT, it should be a great contest.

Even if she doesn't become the No. 1 contender on Raw, it's just a matter of time before she wins her first Divas title and takes her place at the top of the division.

8. Ryback

3 of 10

Previous Rank: Unranked

Ryback has been stagnant for a long time, but he finally saw some character development when he left Kane and Big Show high and dry in their match against The Wyatt Family.

It looks like The Big Guy is turning heel again, and frankly, it's the best move for him. Fans are already reverting to chanting Goldberg's name at him, so he may as well be allowed to show his disdain.

Ryback has added a lot to his moveset over the past year, but he is better suited to be an antagonist than a hero. He looks like a bully, so he might as well play one.

It's too early to tell if this new direction will raise his stock, but there's no denying that the change was needed.

7. Roman Reigns

4 of 10

Previous Rank: No. 1

Roman Reigns fell from the top spot all the way to No. 7 this week for one simple reason: Triple H absolutely owned him on Raw.

The beating he took was brutal and completely one-sided. The blood might not have been real, but the reaction the crowd had to seeing him slammed into the announce table dozens of times was definitely real.

It's unfortunate to see all of Reigns' hard work met with boos from the crowd, but with any luck, officials will realize the best move is to turn him heel eventually.

Reigns probably won't be in action this week, but he could still cut a promo vowing to take revenge on The Game.

6. Y2AJ

5 of 10

Previous Ranks: No. 2 and No. 8

For the time being, it looks like Chris Jericho and AJ Styles have joined forces to form a new tag team. They definitely complement each other well, but we don't know how long this will last.

Jericho always seems like he has one foot out the door whenever he makes a return, so it's unlikely Styles will be in this position for long.

Styles was over with the crowd from the moment he debuted at the Royal Rumble, so putting him with a fan favorite like Jericho isn't needed to increase his popularity.

This was probably done because of a lack of better options. Most of the big stars are tied up in other feuds until after Mania, so Styles will have to bide his time in the tag team division.

5. The New Day

6 of 10

Previous Rank: No. 10

The New Day moves up a few notches this week after defeating The Lucha Dragons and Neville on Raw and delivering a few solid promos throughout the week.

Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E have defeated just about every tag team WWE has to offer, and that means their reign is likely coming to an end soon.

It gets boring seeing the same matches over and over, but these three men have managed to be entertaining every time they step into the ring.

Unless WWE has any immediate plans to promote a tag team from NXT in the near future, the next feud New Day has will probably be with Styles and Jericho.

4. Shane McMahon

7 of 10

Previous Rank: Unranked

Shane McMahon's return to WWE was one of the only times the company has managed to surprise us in years, and that helped propel McMahon into the top 10.

Not only did he get a massive ovation when his music hit, but he was immediately thrust into a WrestleMania match against The Undertaker.

The idea of McMahon defeating The Undertaker inside Hell in a Cell seems a little ridiculous, and that means there will be some kind of swerve.

After all, WWE wouldn't bring back someone like Shane just to lose to The Deadman. There has to be some larger plan in place, and it will be interesting to see it play out over the next several weeks.

3. Brock Lesnar

8 of 10

Previous Rank: No. 4

After failing to become the No. 1 contender to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Fastlane, everyone was wondering who The Beast would be facing at WrestleMania 32.

We got our answer during Raw after Brock Lesnar attacked Dean Ambrose in a parking lot and agreed to face him at WrestleMania.

Lesnar is a rare breed of performer who can make just about any storyline the company gives him into something interesting, and with an opponent as competent as Ambrose, this should be a great feud.

2. Triple H

9 of 10

Previous Rank: Unranked

Even if the blood from Triple H's attack on Reigns was fake, the level of violence was unlike anything we have seen in years.

The fans in attendance ate it up, cheering "this is awesome" at the top of their lungs while Trips bashed Reigns' head into the announce table.

To end a show with such a gruesome scene that keeps people talking was a smart move by management. When it comes to television, it's often the last scene that makes the biggest impression.

Then Triple H delivered a great solo promo on SmackDown to drive home the fact that he is not someone to be trifled with. Regardless of how you feel about The Game, you have to admit he is still one of the best talkers in the business.

1. Dean Ambrose

10 of 10

Previous Rank: No. 3

Dean Ambrose might not have wrestled an actual match, but he had one of the most compelling scenes during Monday's Raw.

The attack from Lesnar in the parking lot before the show left fans wondering if he would appear on Raw, but WWE is booking Ambrose as someone who is unbreakable regardless of how much punishment he takes.

To paraphrase Rocky Balboa: It's not about how hard you can hit; it's about how hard you can get hit and get back up.

We have seen wrestlers who have tried to look indestructible before, but something about Ambrose's insanity makes him so much more convincing.

If he can defeat Lesnar at WrestleMania 32, it will give Ambrose a huge boost and propel him to the top of the food chain.
