New England Patriots vs. New York Jets: Betting Odds, Analysis, NFL Pick
New England, as it does with all of its divisional rivals, owns the upper hand as of late over the Jets, winning eight of the last nine meetings straight up. However, New York is 4-0-1 against the spread over the last five meetings, giving the Patriots a tough time almost every time out.
The Jets will go off as short home dogs on Sunday for their second game of the season against New England.
Point Spread: The Patriots opened as three-point favorites. The total was 45.5 early in the week.
Odds Shark Computer Pick: Jets 25.8, Patriots 15.8
Why the Patriots Can Cover the Spread
After losing back-to-back games for the first time in over three seasons, the Patriots have won two in a row, including a 33-16 decision at home over Tennessee last week.
New England led 14-0 early, pushed that to 24-3 at the half, let the Titans get within two scores at 27-16 midway through the fourth quarter but shut the door from there, securing the cover as a two-touchdown favorite with a pair of late field goals.
The Pats only out-gained Tennessee by 64 yards (346-282) but turned two Titans turnovers into 10 points.
Two weeks ago, New England stuffed Houston 27-6, covering four points on the road, which is just about the spread it'll be dealing with on Sunday in New Jersey.
At 12-2 overall, the Patriots lead Cincinnati by one game in the battle for the best record in the AFC.
Why the Jets Can Cover the Spread
Since losing four of five, the Jets have now won four in a row, including a 19-16 decision at Dallas last week.
New York kicker Randy Bullock missed a field goal and an extra point but connected on a field goal from 40 yards out with roughly 30 seconds to go for the win. On the night, the Jets out-gained the Cowboys 372-309, held the ball for over 32 minutes and won the turnover battle 4-1.
So New York has out-gained each of its last four opponents and out-rushed three of them. Not coincidentally, the Jets are 3-0-1 ATS over their last four games.
At 9-5, New York is basically tied with Pittsburgh for the sixth seed in the AFC playoff standings.
Smart Pick
They've still got Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, but other than that, the Patriots are one banged-up outfit. Meanwhile, the Jets are tired of losing to New England. They want this one. Take New York for the win.
