Skrtel Injury Adds to Reds' Durability Issues on Defense
The Reds have already been forced to deal with a number of defensive setbacks during the 2015-16 campaign, as Joe Gomez, Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren have all spent time on the sidelines with injuries.
Manager Jurgen Klopp has been moving his squad around to deal with the setbacks as best he can, including playing Emre Can at centre-back. The one constant has been Skrtel, however, vindicating former manager Brendan Rodgers' decision to sign him to a new deal at the end of last season, per the Guardian's Andy Hunter.
The Slovak bruiser has been one of Liverpool's top defenders since joining the club in 2008, and his experience has been invaluable during the 2015-16 season. He remains one of the toughest defenders in the Premier League, and his no-nonsense approach has saved the squad on several occasions.
Replacing Skrtel will be a huge task, but Klopp has done a solid job dealing with a myriad of defensive worries so far. One has to assume he'll do so again.
