Floyd Failing to Impress in 2016
ThroughĀ 10 games this season, Floyd has recorded 26 catches for 379 yards and three touchdownsĀ as the third of three dangerous Cardinals wide receivers who becameĀ leaguewide aerial threats last season.Ā
Floyd became quarterback Carson Palmer's third option in a passing game that ranked second in the NFLĀ with 288.5 yards per game in 2015, thanks to the resurgence of Larry FitzgeraldĀ and the speedy John Brown.
Unfortunately for Floyd and the Cardinals, though, the offense has been down this season with 261.1 yards per game. Meanwhile, injuries continue to plague the 27-year-old.Ā
Floyd missed only one game last season due to a hamstring issueĀ afterĀ overcoming theĀ dislocationĀ of three fingers during training camp.Ā
This season, he entered the league's concussion protocol during Week 3 but was cleared to play for Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams.Ā
Floyd has become a trusted target for Palmer, even though he hasn't seen the ball as much as Fitzgerald, Brown and running back David Johnson.Ā The fifth-year receiver is capable of dissecting even the best of defenses, via the NFL:
And when he's called upon, he can take over the game. In Week 13 of 2015 against the Rams, Floyd was targeted a season-high 12 times, catching seven passes for 104 yards. It was a part of an eight-game stretch that saw him record more than 100 yards five times.
Even when he isn't called upon, he manages to make playsālike this go-ahead touchdown catch in the divisional round of the playoffs against the Green Bay Packers, via the NFL:
If Floyd is limited moving forward, Jaron Brown and J.J. Nelson could see bumps in reps. However, the Cardinals will need a fully healthy offense in an NFC West that features the tough Seattle Seahawks defense if they have any hope of making the postseason.
