Trey Watts Suspended: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction
St. Louis Rams running back Trey Watts was suspended indefinitely Wednesday for a violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy.
ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the news. Watts, 24, has appeared in only one game this season and has not recorded an offensive statistic. He was listed fourth on the Rams' running back depth chart behind Todd Gurley, Tre Mason and Benjamin Cunningham. It was only last month the team brought him up from the practice squad.
The league suspended the Tulsa product in May for the first four games of the 2015 season for a previous substance-abuse violation. While it's unclear what substance Watts tested positive for, an indefinite suspension would indicate he's failed at least three tests since entering the NFL.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
“I made a mistake and now I have to deal with it,” Watts said in August, per Joe Lyons of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I’m disappointed in myself because I feel like I let people down. I let my teammates down and I let my family down. But all I can do now is try to move forward. I can’t think about the suspension; on the football field, my focus has to be on football and right now, I’m just focused on pushing myself each day to become a better player.”
Watts' suspension won't affect the Rams' on-field product in the slightest. Gurley's already emerged as one of the league's best backs during his rookie campaign, and Mason and Cunningham have both proved capable in spot work in the past. Watts probably wasn't going to play much outside of special teams regardless, and the Rams spent most of the first half of the season with him on the sidelines.
As it stands, the question now is whether these issues will cost Watts his pro career entirely.
