Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
The big swerve at Hell in a Cell last weekend was without doubt the shock return of Alberto Del Rio to the company.
He left WWE under a real cloud earlier this year but returned at the pay-per-view last weekend to beat John Cena cleanly and become the new United States champion.
Some clarity over what sort of deal Del Rio has was put forward by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestlingInc's Marc Middleton this week, with it becoming clear that Del Rio still has commitments with other promotions.
The Observer notes that AAA was hopeful Del Rio would work its show on Monday, but as we all know, Del Rio wrestled on Raw.
Given how he is still the AAA Mega champion, he needs to tidy things up with that company so he can presumably drop the belt and roll back with WWE on a full-time basis.
But the Observer also notes that Del Rio will go off on WWE's Roman Reigns-led leg of their European Tour, making it tough to see where he fits time in to go back to AAA and drop the title.
What it means is at some point before the end of the year, there might be a period where Del Rio nips away to fulfil those commitments.
When Can We Expect to See John Cena Competing Again?
News on John Cena's likely return to WWE has filtered through this week, courtesy of F4WOnline.com (h/t WrestlingInc).
It was unclear when we were likely to see Cena again after he dropped his U.S. title to Alberto Del Rio at Hell in a Cell, but the picture has become somewhat clearer thanks to this latest report.
Cena has been advertised by WWE to be competing at its December 26 event, which takes place at Madison Square Garden.
However, this report notes that Cena will be back before then, as he's slated to be at the Tables, Ladders and Chairs pay-per-view a couple of weeks prior to that on December 13.
This would likely be when he gets his rematch for the title against Del Rio, and with it being in Boston, WWE is likely to hold Cena back until then so he gets the big pop from the crowd.
Plans for Two Leading Tag Teams
The tag team division has gone off the boil a bit recently, but it seems that there are plans taking place behind the scenes to shake it up.
Eagle-eyed WWE fans will have noticed Los Matadores have taken a step back from TV lately, and that's because the duo is being repackaged in preparation for a new gimmick.
Via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestlingInc), it seems the men previously known as Primo and Epico are going through another transition and will be returning as something new.
That's no surprise, as the Los Matadores gimmick really hasn't worked since it was debuted. They've descended into a bit of a comedy act, and it's reported that WWE wants to keep them off TV for a while so fans forget all about Los Matadores. That shouldn't be too hard to do, you feel.
Also, it's interesting that the same report mentions The Usos are on the way back to active competition. Jey Uso has been sidelined for a while with a shoulder problem, but when they do return, they're going straight back in at the top of the division to challenge The New Day, according to this report.
They're going to be pushed as the top babyface tag team and will overtake The Dudley Boyz, who have yet to really get going since their return to WWE.
