Philip Rivers Breaks Chargers Record for Yards, Completions, Attempts vs Packers
San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers set a franchise single-game record for completions, attempts and yards in Sunday's 27-20 loss against the Packers at Green Bay.
NFL.com's Around The NFL Twitter feed reported the news, as Rivers was 43-of-65 passing for 503 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately for San Diego fans, it still wasn't enough for the Chargers to pull off a victory at Lambeau Field.
"We should have scored 40. And that's what's frustrating because the defense played their tail off," said Rivers afterwards, per Chargers.com's Ricky Henne.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Rivers connected often with Keenan Allen, who kept busy with 14 receptions for 157 yards—but the pair didn't hook up on the Chargers' final possession. It was an 11-play, 77-yard drive that ended on the Green Bay 3-yard line in a turnover on downs.
Rookie first-round running back Melvin Gordon was hampered with a foot injury, forcing Rivers to take to the air in a thrilling QB duel with superstar counterpart Aaron Rodgers. Will Brinson of CBSSports.com added more context to Rivers' monster numbers:
Considering the Chargers field a depleted offensive line and were without a rushing attack for much of Sunday's contest, Rivers did a phenomenal job of keeping his team close. Those who doubt Rivers' status as an elite player at his position shouldn't look any further than Week 6's performance to be convinced otherwise.
The only problem is the NFL is a bottom-line business. Now San Diego has fallen to 2-4 on the season, off to another slow start that has plagued the franchise in Rivers' tenure as starter.
If Rivers keeps playing at this high of a level, though, the Chargers will have a shot at a second-half push for the playoffs. They have a huge AFC West showdown on deck against the 2-3 Oakland Raiders (on bye in Week 6), and San Diego will have to do well to fend off the Raiders pass rush led by Khalil Mack.
