Should Washington Run The Wildcat?
I hate gimmicks. I hated the run and shoot. It was stupid when every offensive coordinator after seeing Dion Sanders play both ways had their athletic defensive players go both ways. Last season I was disgusted when teams after seeing the Wildcat run by Miami immediately give their running back a direct snap.ย But despite all thatย I think the Redskins should think about it.
The Redskins are one of the few teams with the necessary personel to cause teams problems and not simply use it as a surprise. They have Randel El and Jason Campbell. Randel El played QB and would force defenses to be somewhat honest when he is in Wildcat andย Campbell is athletic enough to force teams to cover him.

The Redskinsย wouldย force opposing defensive coordinators to waste time preparing for a formationย they might see two or three timesย in a game. The Redskinsย could do this with no obvious change of personel and catch the defence off-guardย and even use it without huddling.ย They would be much quicker at executing the play they designed and practiced whereas the defence would have to prepare for every possible play you could run out of an unusual formation and not be as sharp.
The Redskins running gamesย has been soย predictable why not have Randel El doing the handoffs just to give the defenceย something to think about every now and again? Or run the option ocasionally withย Randle El under center. Campbell wouldn't risk injury running the option plus he is bigger than most DB's,ย he's more like a small TE, and asย a blocker he could shove around any DB they put on him, and in the unlikely senario they move a linebacker out there it would weaken the interior defence and Campbell is much faster than most linebackers.
This wouldn't be a gimmick but something taking advange of the unique personel the Redskins have. Who knows maybe it will work better than the fake reverse get sacked and knocked out of field goal range play.
