NXT TakeOver: Respect: Full Preview, Match Card and More for October 7

The Doctor Chris MuellerOct 7, 2015

Welcome to Bleacher Report's preview for this week's episode of WWE NXT, where we take a spoiler-free look at what's in store for the developmental brand's upcoming episode.

NXT TakeOver events typically air on Saturdays, but WWE is doing something a little different this time by putting the two-hour TakeOver: Respect special in NXT's usual Wednesday time slot.

This isn't just a big night for NXT—it's a big night for women's wrestling. Bayley and Sasha Banks are not only going to be the first women to headline one of these specials, but they will also be the first women to ever compete in an Iron Man match in WWE.

In addition to that stellar main event, we will also see which of the four remaining tag teams wins the first Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Let's take a look at the card, courtesy of WWE.com:

  • Tyler Breeze vs. Apollo Crews
  • Asuka vs. Dana Brooke
  • Jason Jordan and Chad Gable vs. Rhyno and Baron Corbin (Semifinal)
  • Samoa Joe and Finn Balor vs. Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder (Semifinal)
  • Winners of semifinals face in the final round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic
  • Bayley vs. Sasha Banks (Women's Championship Iron Man match)

As you can see, in addition to the women's title match, we will also see Asuka make her NXT wrestling debut. She has made a name for herself all over the world, and we will finally get to see what she is capable of in a WWE ring.

Since NXT champion Finn Balor is potentially wrestling twice in the last two rounds of the Dusty Rhodes Classic, he will not be defending his title. This will give Bayley and Banks more attention as they will be in the only title match of the evening.

However, just because Balor and Samoa Joe are the two biggest stars in the tournament, it doesn't guarantee they will walk away with the win.

Three other tag teams are competing, with five of the six men in those teams being hungry, young Superstars looking for that breakout moment that sets them apart from the rest of the pack.

Also looking to make a name for himself will be Apollo Crews. As one of the newest additions to the NXT roster, he still has to prove he is worthy of the opportunity he has been given.

There is no denying that he is athletically gifted in a way most of us can only dream of, but it takes more than the ability to do a standing moonsault to connect with the WWE Universe.

With an opponent as talented as Tyler Breeze, Crews is going to have to use everything in his arsenal to keep up. Everything we have seen from him up to this point seems to indicate that he has what it takes to survive in this business, so hopefully he can make a good impression during Wednesday's show.

As far as the main event is concerned, there is little doubt that Bayley and Banks will produce another instant classic. WWE.com ranked their last encounter as the No. 1 NXT match, so expectations for their rematch are high.

It seems like every time WWE puts on one of these NXT live specials, the matches get better and better, and that is not something we can say about pay-per-views from the main roster.

Even without the NXT and Tag Team Championships on the line, we should be in for another fun couple of hours of wrestling Wednesday night.

Which match are you looking forward to the most from NXT TakeOver: Respect?

Make sure to come back Wednesday night at the start of the show for Bleacher Report's live coverage of all the action. Thanks for reading, and follow me on Twitter: @BR_Doctor.
