"I was playing pickup on Tuesday, and I slipped on a wet spot," Middleton told reporters when asked about how he injured his hamstring.
Middleton's Injury Is Crushing Blow to Bucks
"We're obviously disappointed for Khris and our team, but injuries are an unfortunate part of the game," Bucks general manager John Hammond said in the Bucks' official press release. "We’ll rely on our overall roster depth to help us while Khris is out for a significant period of the season."
Preparing for his fifth year in the league, Middleton is trying to build off a 2015-16 season that saw his offensive production jump to 18.2 points per game. He averaged 13.4 the previous campaign.
The increase might have been due to Brandon Knight's departure at the 2014-15 trade deadline, and it created the expectation that Middleton would be a key part of a solid offensive unit that also features Jabari Parker, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greg Monroe.
Given that SB Nation's Britt Robson described Middleton as invaluable, this injury could be devastating to the Bucks:
"Middleton is the caulk, seaming the joints and shoring up any cracks that inevitably appear on the Bucks young roster. One whose future upside is still more enviable than its current experience and inherent synergy. His outside shooting opens up the floor for the team’s offense. His hard-earned knowledge of trapping angles and timing collapses the floor for opponents when the Bucks are engaged in their typically aggressive defensive sets. Middleton doesn’t wow onlookers in the moment. But his effectiveness is what makes the Bucks' gambles, on schemes and on personnel, work day-to-day.
"
Keeping up with the theme of youth in Milwaukee, the Bucks will have to turn to some of their youngest players while Middleton recovers.
Look for second-year man Rashad Vaughn to start in his place, while rookie Malcolm Brogdon will serve as Vaughn's backup.
