Liverpool Transfer News: Leroy Sane Bid Revealed, Latest Rumours on Schalke Star
Liverpool reportedly had an offer for Leroy Sane rejected by Schalke during the summer, but they are about to renew their pursuit of the teenage wunderkind.
That’s according to Bild (h/t Alex Richards of the Daily Mirror), which claimed Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of the 19-year-old, who has burst onto the scene in spectacular fashion in 2015. It’s noted by Bild that the Reds had an £11 million bid for Sane knocked back before the transfer window closed.
Here’s a look at why there is so much hype about the exciting young forward:
Stylistically, it’s easy to see why Sane has been identified as an ideal player for Liverpool. Aside from the green Jordon Ibe, there are no orthodox wingers available to Rodgers and as such, the attacking play of the Reds has looked a little pedestrian at times this season.

A player who offers thrust from the wide positions is so important when it comes to breaking down the obdurate defensive sides Liverpool often find themselves up against. And while Sane is still developing, he’s a footballer who would add something that is currently scarce in the starting XI.
Sports journalist Rafael Hernandez thinks Sane is a player who possesses a lot of similar attributes to a former Liverpool star:
Sane is vibrant, sharp on the ball and extremely skilful, but there’s a composure about his attacking play that a lot of players never quite garner, never mind those still so young. It’s that conviction in decision-making that bodes well for the youngster in the coming years.

Bundesliga expert and former Norwegian international Jan Aage Fjortoft thinks it’s only a matter of time before the Premier League juggernauts begin sniffing around Sane:
Schalke are under no pressure to sell, though. They offloaded Julian Draxler last summer in a big-money transfer and given Sane signed a two-year contract extension with the club recently, it would most likely take a massive bid to prise him away from the Veltins Arena. Liverpool, therefore, would have to stump up a lot of money if a deal was to go ahead
German football expert Alex Chaffer thinks Sane is a player who is going right to the top of the game:
The Premier League’s glamour and cash would be a draw for Sane, but for the time being he’s better off staying at Schalke and continuing to develop. After the sale of Draxler he’s been handed a much more significant role by manager Andre Breitenreiter and his performance levels in the Bundesliga have gone up as a result.

At Liverpool he’d probably have enough to get in the first team and make an immediate initial impact, especially given the lack of similar players in the current squad. A big move so early in Sane’s career would heap plenty of pressure on the teenager, though, when at this early stage of his playing days, stability is vital if he is to continue progressing.
