Hilton Struggling to Match 2014 Success
Entering this year, expectations were high for the 25-year-old after his breakout 2014 campaign. Hilton caught 82 passes for 1,345 yards and seven touchdowns last year, parlaying that success into a five-year, $65 million extension in the offseason, with $39 million in guarantees.
Things didn't get off to a great start for Hilton or the Colts in 2015, as he caught seven passes for 88 yards in a 27-14 Week 1 defeat to the Buffalo Bills. More importantly, Hilton exited that game with a knee injury. The team dodged a bullet in that case but may not be so lucky this time around. Rapoport reported Hilton's "status is day-to-day, but certainly worth watching."
As good as Andrew Luck normally is, he still needs Hilton healthy and contributing to the offense, especially since Luck has been banged up and not as effective himself. Andre Johnson, 34, has understandably dropped off in production in 2015, while Donte Moncrief is still somewhat unproven.
It's a stretch to say Hilton is vital to the Colts' playoff chances, but even navigating a weak AFC South would be tougher without him for Indianapolis.
