NASCAR at Watkins Glen 2015 Results: Winner, Standings, Highlights and Reaction
Joey Logano stole the checkered flag out of Kevin Harvick's grasp at Sunday's Cheez-It 355 at The Glen, the second consecutive weekend fuel mileage came into play at the finish line.
Harvick and Logano dueled each other down the stretch, with Kyle Busch not far behind, after emerging unscathed from a wild race that included seven cautions and even a red flag at the tricky road course.
Logano pulled the final pass when the Sprint Cup Series leader ran out of fuel, completing his weekend sweep at Watkins Glen International in New York and seizing Sunday's checkered flag after leading just one lap. NASCAR captured the celebration:

It wasn't a great day for some of the Chase's most recognizable names. AJ Allmendinger, who entered the race 24th in points and needed a win to stay in the Chase, seemed to throw in the towel early due to car issues.
Fox Sports' Alan Cavanna captured his thoughts:
Allmendinger was right, as he continued to lose ground and wound up in 24th place.
It was much of the same for another borderline Chase hopeful, Aric Almirola. The Richard Petty Motorsports driver entered in 18th place but spun out early. FoxSports.com's Tom Jensen said it all:
Almirola wound up finishing in 16th place.
Despite the initial issues for those who needed to avoid them the most, The Glen managed to avoid major caution flags until the mid-20s of the race.
It was all downhill from there.
The most notable issue centered on a hood malfunction for Denny Hamlin, as NASCAR on NBC captured:
Hamlin went to pit road, got the hood sawed off and took to the track with his engine exposed, only to throw debris all over the track and force a caution. By day's end, he was 27th.
It got worse, too. On a restart shortly after, one car in a long line hit the brakes too hard right after the green flag waved, prompting contact for most of the cars in the line. The result? Damage to multiple cars and fluid on the track, prompting the red flag.
Once things got started again, Busch managed to steal the lead from Brad Keselowski, and an entertaining battle ensued. Of course, it was cut short by the day's sixth caution, where Jimmie Johnson spun out and Tony Stewart stalled. Smoke's words, per Stewart-Haas Racing, said it all:
Another Chase hopeful, Stewart's potential rise from 26th on the leaderboard took a turn for the worse with a 43rd-place finish.
Things shook up after the restart, with familiar faces such as the series leader Harvick, Larson, Logano and Busch in the running. The most interesting name there, of course, is Busch, he of a medical exemption and in need of 30th place to qualify for the Chase.
In a flashback to one week ago, Busch ran out of gas, so instead of scoring a nice amount of points for a near-top finish, he hurt himself. Sunday became a similar debate—conserve for the points or go for the win? Geoffrey Miller of Athlon Sports put it best:
In the end, Busch eased off and allowed the two-man duel between Logano and Harvick to entertain.
Unfortunately for the Series leader, he ran out of gas with just two turns left before the checkered flag, allowing Logano to cut in and reach the finish first. For Logano, it ends weeks of coming up short in similar situations.
As for Busch, his second-place finish means he's 30th on the leaderboard and completes his epic run to the Chase. He shared his thoughts after the race, per Fox Sports: NASCAR:
Next Sunday, the series heads back to Michigan International Speedway, this time for the Pure Michigan 400.
With things going back to "normal" after a tough road-course adventure at The Glen, there's no doubt the race will provide more Chase hopefuls a chance to turn things around. With fuel mileage and strategy ruling the day down the stretch with Chase qualifying on the line, it figures to be just as thrilling as Sunday's epic finish.
